Stamp Duty Land Tax rates are changing from 1st April 2025.
Whilst this change will impact everyone planning to move, it's first time buyers will be the most affected.
- Currently, first-time buyers pay no stamp duty when buying a home worth £425,000. This threshold will drop to £300,000.
- From the end of March 2025, if you're a home mover and buy a home valued between £125,000 - £250,000, you will pay 2% Stamp Duty.
- If you buy a home valued between £250,001 - £925,000 you will pay 5% Stamp Duty.
FOR EXAMPLE,
If you are a first-time buyer and are purchasing a home valued at £350,000:
- Move in now and you'll pay £0 Stamp Duty
- Move in after the end of March 2025 you'll pay £2,500
